  • Will the current status of my loan change during the transfer or will I need to take actions to maintain my status (i.e. reapply for deferment, Automatic Debit payments, etc.)?

    Loan status information is included as part of the transfer of your Department of Education loan.

    Active deferment and repayment plans should remain active until the scheduled end date or until we are notified of a change.

    If you were signed up for Automatic Payment Withdrawals through your previous servicer, there is no need to re-apply. If your payment was scheduled to be withdrawn, we do not anticipate an interruption. Please allow 3-4 business days from the day you receive your transfer notification letter for all of your billing and Auto Debit information to be available on our website. If you would like to suspend Auto Debit once your account is transferred to MOHELA, please contact us directly.

  • Will my loan payment change with MOHELA?

    In most cases, your loan payment will not change when it transfers to MOHELA. However, in a limited number of cases, it is possible that your loan payment amount will need to be recalculated to ensure your loan will be paid in accordance with your loan agreement (promissory note) with the Department of Education. Federal law establishes a specific number of months in which you must repay your Federal Student Loans.

    There are a variety of repayment options available to help you manage your student loans. If your loan payment is recalculated and you are concerned you won’t be able to make the new monthly payment, contact MOHELA at 888.866.4352 to explore repayment options.

  • What if I want to make a payment during the transfer period?

    If your loans are transferring from Aspire, you are able to submit payment to MOHELA through mail or phone during the transfer period. If you received a billing statement from them, please mail your payment as normal. MOHELA will receive this payment from Aspire. As soon as all of your MOHELA account information is available, please begin mailing your MOHELA billing statement to the address listed below:

    Please keep in mind: if you are enrolled in Automatic Payment Withdrawals, your regularly scheduled payment will be debited from your account. If you were signed up for Automatic Payment Withdrawals through your previous servicer, good news! – no need to re-apply.

  • What if I want to pay off my loan during the transfer period?

    You may pay your loans off by one of our convenient payment methods; however, we are unable to calculate the payoff balance until your account information is available.

  • My outstanding principal balance with my former servicer now says $0. What happened to my remaining balance?

    During the loan transfer from your previous servicer, your account with them will reflect a $0 principal balance. After the transfer is complete, your outstanding principal balance will be available at MOHELA.

  • Will my due date change?

    Your due date is not expected to change. The due date can be found on your billing statements or your online account.

  • Who should I contact about making a payment or to request a change to my account?

    Until the date when your loans begin transferring, please continue to contact Aspire about making payments or changes to your account. Once your loans transfer, please contact MOHELA for assistance.

  • How will I receive my 2015 tax information for payments made to Aspire Resources Inc?

    MOHELA will provide tax information with your reportable interest amount paid to Aspire Resources Inc in 2015 by January 31, 2016. We will also report tax information for payments made directly to MOHELA after the transfer.
